Housing Manager
Cook’s Ferry Indian Band
Merritt & Spences Bridge, British Columbia
The Cook’s Ferry Indian Band is a Nlaka’pamux government located in the scenic Thompson River Valley of British Columbia. With a strong connection to land, culture, and community well-being, the Band is committed to providing safe, healthy, and well-maintained housing for its members. Cook’s Ferry Indian Band is currently seeking a Housing Manager to oversee and support on-reserve housing operations across Merritt and Spences Bridge.
This is a community-focused leadership role suited to a capable, service-driven professional who values accountability, collaboration, and practical problem-solving. The Housing Manager is a member of the leadership team and reports directly to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), playing a key role in advancing operational effectiveness and organizational alignment.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the CAO, the Housing Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management and administration of all on-reserve housing units. This includes maintaining accurate housing records such as tenant files, rental agreements, inspection reports, maintenance logs, and housing waitlists. You will coordinate move-ins, move-outs, vacancies, and lease renewals while ensuring tenancy agreements are properly completed and maintained.
As the primary point of contact for tenants, you will respond to housing inquiries, maintenance requests, and health and safety concerns, while clearly communicating housing policies, procedures, and expectations. You will create, assign, and monitor work orders; coordinate contractors, maintenance staff, and vendors; oversee preventative maintenance schedules; and manage emergency repairs as required.
In this leadership role, you are expected to bring a proactive and forward-looking mindset, operating with objectivity, professionalism, and sound judgment. Comfortable working independently, you will remain results-focused while navigating ambiguity and change in alignment with organizational priorities and community values. As a collaborative member of the leadership team, you will work in partnership with colleagues and community members to support the effective delivery of community services, and you will consistently bring forward practical, solution-oriented recommendations.
The Housing Manager is also responsible for developing and monitoring departmental budgets, tracking expenditures, preparing reports, and supporting funding applications. You will assist in the development and review of housing policies, standard operating procedures, and housing program initiatives, including tenant education, community engagement, and housing improvements.
The Ideal Candidate
You bring a minimum of five years of progressive experience in housing administration, property management, or a related field, with demonstrated responsibility for operations, budgets, and client relationships, along with a strong understanding of residential tenancy legislation and housing policies.
You are highly organized, adaptable, and capable of working independently while collaborating effectively with tenants, contractors, staff, and leadership. Strong communication, problem-solving, and administrative skills are essential, as is proficiency with Microsoft Office and housing management systems.
A valid driver’s licence and the ability to travel between Merritt and Spences Bridge are required. Experience working with Indigenous communities or First Nation governments, familiarity with governance processes, property management experience, or knowledge of Nlaka’pamux culture or language are considered strong assets.
