Located in hitac?u on the stunning West Coast of Vancouver Island, the Yuulu?il?at? Government oversees nearly 5,500 hectares of Treaty Settlement Land. Home to a community of approximately 700 members, this modern treaty Nation operates under a government-to-government relationship with Canada and British Columbia, focusing on strengthening Yuulu?il?at? and Nuu-chah-nulth identities through education and community initiatives. The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Director of Operations, you will provide overall leadership, direction, and support for the planning, funding negotiations, development, delivery, financial management, and administration of Yuulu?il?at? Government Health and Social Services programs. These include health, family care, and social development initiatives. In this role, you will also participate in developing and implementing Emergency Preparedness Plans for the portfolio’s programs.

Candidate Profile
You bring a Bachelor’s Degree in Health, Social Work, Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred), along with 8-10 years of relevant experience, including 2-3 years in management in a related field within First Nations, Healthcare or Government. Your strong background in developing and managing social services programs and policies, as well as researching, creating, and overseeing funding proposals, makes you an ideal fit for this role.
You are well-versed in working with regulations, professional standards, and culturally appropriate community-based service delivery. With your excellent leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution skills, you will be able to mentor staff and navigate dynamic environments strategically.
Your knowledge of the BC Health Care system, First Nations Health Authority, and community supports, along with your understanding of the social determinants of health within Indigenous communities, is critical. You possess strong cultural sensitivity, financial literacy, and professionalism.
Additionally, you hold a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and have a clean criminal record check. Most importantly, you bring a genuine respect for Yuulu?il?at? traditions and protocols, which will guide your approach to leadership within the community.
Offering
You will receive a competitive base salary between $120,000 and $130,000, along with a comprehensive benefits package, including medical benefits and a Registered Pension Plan. Relocation and housing assistance will be offered to the successful candidate.
