Director of Finance

Our client, located in Victoria, BC is a Canadian holding company with ownership in a range of diverse operating companies across a variety of industries. They have an exciting opportunity for an exceptional Director of Finance with strong leadership, collaboration and relationship building abilities and a strong attention to detail and deadlines. You are comfortable in a hands-on role and in an advisory role and you also have an aptitude for systems and process improvements. 

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Finance will lead a team responsible for the financial and accounting responsibilities. Key accountabilities include: 

  • Assumes responsibility for the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting for holding company entities and related assets (including commercial real estate properties)
  • Ownership of tax compliance including federal and provincial income tax return preparation, quarterly estimates, and year-end tax planning for the holding company and related entities
  • Assist the CFO with overall tax planning including liaising with external tax advisors to develop efficient tax strategies and structures
  • Optimise accounting and planning operations to deliver accurate and timely accounting information, provide consistent forward visibility, ensure an efficient cash cycle, and create insightful analysis to support management decision-making
  • Design and implement formal planning / budgeting and forecasting tools
  • Support growth by providing relevant financial analysis that helps us understand our successes and challenges
  • Monitor transactional processes and identify creative solutions to eliminate process inefficiencies
  • Leverage investment in technology and manage all forms of business risk
  • Provide financial planning and business-related assistance and client financial education to key stakeholders and internal staff
  • Establish and develop effective working relationships with key stakeholders, internal staff (including those in related entities) and external advisors 

To be considered for this role you will have a Canadian CPA designation, an undergraduate degree in Business Administration or a related field and 5+ years’ experience in a senior level accounting role managing or supervising a team. You have at least 2-5 years post public practice industry experience. Experience in a head office of a consolidated group of companies or a private bank would be a benefit. You also have strong reporting and tax compliance experience, and experience with planning, budgeting and forecasting.  You are highly analytical and organized and have excellent project management skills, financial acumen, and written and verbal communication skills. You are a self-starter with initiative and strong judgment who has a proven track record of meeting critical deadlines with accuracy.
