Dedicated to supporting applied and industrial research in all disciplines, Mitacs has expanded their offering to include programs in R&D management, professional skills development, and international research training. With 25 offices across Canada and a coast-to-coast business development team dedicated to building and supporting new partnerships, Mitacs is looking to fill their Vice President, Government Relations role that has recently become vacant. Reporting to the Chief Business Development and Partnerships Officer, the VP will be responsible for establishing and managing funding partnerships with domestic governments, leading Mitacs' academic partner strategy with member institutions, and collaborating with applicable industry associations and private sector partners in Canada.

Based out of Toronto or Ottawa and as member of the senior leadership team, the VP will lead the government relations team (3 nationally) and be the voice of the organization at key conferences and meetings to ensure that the organization is able to meet internal and external stakeholder expectations as well as funding requirements. In pursuit of that mission, the VP will also oversee the innovation policy and government reporting teams (total of 4) to produce policy work that furthers Mitacs' mission, supports Mitacs' innovation program design, and is responsible for Mitacs' Reporting Strategy to government funders.

For the VP role, we are looking for experienced government relations professionals from federal or provincial government, a public relations/lobbying firm or as GR lead within an association or partner company with links to innovation. Backed by a Bachelor’s degree in related field, you come with over 10 years of government relations expertise combined with over 5 years of team leadership. You have a reputation for collaboration and are able to engage in high level negotiations with government, institutions and agencies. You have a strong understanding of government priorities including knowledge of Canada’s innovation strategy.

As a true team player known for using tact and diplomacy to move an agenda item forward, you look forward to bringing your expertise to advance the work of Mitacs.
