GENERAL MANAGER – UPTOWN CENTRE

Victoria BC

Morguard is a fully integrated real estate company, which owns, manages and invests in high-quality, well-located assets across North America.  With 40 years of long-term growth and a dynamic team of more than 1,500 professionals, its commitment is to realize the potential of real estate through value creation and operational excellence. Currently, its total assets owned and under management are valued at approximately $22 billion. (See morguard.com for more information).

Morguard is now seeking a General Manager for a flagship property, Uptown Centre in Victoria. Uptown is a recently-developed large (currently 866,000 sf) ‘lifestyle centre’ that integrates retail and office components into an exciting and inviting place for people to shop, work, and play. The retail component is a sophisticated open-air shopping destination that includes dominant anchors, such as Walmart, Whole Foods and Best Buy, and a superior, comprehensive mix of other retailers (see shopuptown.ca). A high-rise residential component will soon be added, creating a complete community comprising over 1 million sf.

The General Manager has a broad management role that leads, manages and supports the team of managers and specialists running the centre. It includes responsibility for a variety of functions such as budgeting, operations, capital projects, marketing, specialty leasing, tenant relations – all ultimately geared to creating value for the owners and a unique place and experience for customers and tenants.

Candidates for this position should have at least 7 years of experience in retail property management, preferably including sizeable, successful centres.  Experience with mixed-use properties incorporating office will be useful but is not essential.  We need a self-starter who can see what needs to be done and has a participative, collaborative management style in getting it done. Excellent communication, organizational, team development and relationship-building skills will be required.

This is an excellent opportunity to manage a state-of-the-art destination centre which is already successful and has still great potential for further growth and higher performance.

Please send your resume in strict confidence to WMC at: search@wmc.bc.ca, quoting file 08720, or telephone Richard Savage at 604 443 3715 for more information.
