Chief Information Officer

Mitacs is a national, not-for-profit organization known for designing and delivering research and training programs in Canada for 15 years. Working with 60 universities, thousands of companies, and both federal and provincial governments, they build partnerships that support industrial and social innovation in Canada.

Dedicated to supporting applied and industrial research in mathematical sciences and associated disciplines, as of 2007, Mitacs has expanded their offering to include programs in R&D management, professional skills development, and international research training. From aerospace systems to childhood literacy rates, Mitacs-funded research helps to strengthen connections, improve economic performance, and create jobs. Over the past 15 years, the team at Mitacs has supported more than 10,000 research internships, trained more than 19,000 student and postdoc career-skills participants, and supported more than 1,300 international research collaborations.

With 25 offices across Canada and a coast-to-coast business development team dedicated to building and supporting new partnerships, Mitacs is adding the Chief Information Officer(CIO) role to the executive team in Vancouver. Reporting to the CEO, the new CIO will be mandated to provide technology vision and leadership, including spearheading the development and execution of the Mitacs Information Technology/Services strategic plan for the approximately 150-strong employee base.

As the new CIO, you will build up your team’s expertise to oversee the continued development, evaluation, and coordination of enterprise IT/IS systems with a view to improve total cost of ownership, service quality, availability of relevant business information and operational efficiencies. You will also be responsible for ensuring the delivery of strong business workflow processes through an optimal balance of applications development and standardized solutions to business units across the country. By continually developing and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders both internally and externally, you will be an advisor on Information Technology matters as they affect not-for-profit organizations.

For the CIO role, we are looking for strong leaders with at least 10 years of progressively responsible IT/IS responsibility combined ideally with a minimum 3 years as a CIO or equivalent.  You have proven success in leading a complex, multi-disciplinary group of professionals, and technical staff with knowledge of the concepts, principles and practices of IT/IS with emphasis on enterprise architecture and integrated IT/IS infrastructure, IT/IS governance, business intelligence, application development and data centre operations.  Backed by a degree (preferably advanced) in Computer Science, Information Systems and/or Business, you are an effective communicator with strong influencing, negotiation and relationship building skills. A solid understanding of information security combined with a natural curiosity for linking IT capabilities with business needs has given you a reputation for collaborating with a variety of stakeholders to achieve innovative and business centric solutions.

If you are at a stage in your career where you are ready to bring your IT expertise to help advance the important work of Mitacs, then we look forward to hearing from you. Please submit your resume and cover letter in confidence online. For more information, please contact Kataneh Sherkat or Lynn Armstrong of WMC at (604)687-0391.
