Manager, Technical Operations- Brampton Library

 The Organization:

The Brampton Library is a growing team that is committed to enriching the lives of over 500,000 Brampton residents.  Working with more than 175 distinct ethnic backgrounds, the Brampton Library promotes literacy, and provides access to recreational materials and information in a welcoming environment that fosters connections with others and with the community. 

The Position:

Reporting to the Director, Technology and Innovation, responsible for the ongoing operation and development of information technology services for the Library including networks, servers, software and hardware aligned with the achievement of the organization’s vision, mission, values and strategic objectives and priorities. Coordinates daily operations, engineers and implements IT projects to deliver a secure, stable, uninterrupted, and reliable network environment; participates as a team member with the library staff in performing any duty essential to the achievement of efficient and effective library service.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Update or develop procedures and standards in relation to use, acquisition, maintenance and implementation of hardware and software.

  • Be responsible for technology services and may be required to support during non- business hours to maintain the system or emergency work.

  • Coordinate and implement technology projects and initiatives within the Library, providing IT expertise and guidance in accordance with unit priorities, standards, security, best practices, and quality benchmarks.

  • Ensure all production and non-production issues are tracked, and perform the necessary follow-ups and/or escalations.

  • Engage in ongoing vendor and municipal relations in areas of responsibility; responsible for Vendor and/or Service Provider agreements administration and oversight.

  • Have excellent interpersonal, time management and strong communication skills.

  • Create a team environment which fosters and develops effective working relationships and high performance.

  • Build support for work unit goals/objectives by communicating expectations and rationale and by monitoring and measuring work and outcomes.

 

The Candidate:

  • University degree/diploma in a related field or equivalent

  • Proven technical skills with at least 3 years’ experience in design and supporting of a hosted virtual environment delivering virtual applications and desktop services.Demonstrated supervisory skills with at least 1 year of supervisory experience in a unionized environment.

    • Strong technical knowledge, preferably in the following areas: Cisco, Palo Alto, Polaris ILS, Citrix, VMWare, MS Active Directory, MS SQL. Dell Servers and Storage.
  • Valid driver’s license with access to a vehicle.
